ABOUT FAMILY PROMISE
200 affiliates across the nation are using the Family Promise model to address, in part, the needs of homeless families in their communities. An affiliate in Mat-su has been operational for over 10 years. Juneau will be the 2nd affiliate in Alaska!
Families in need apply for participation in the program. The director and staff determine who can best be helped by Family Promise.
Families spend their day receiving services at the Family Promise day center and are transported each evening to the host congregation where a room has been set aside with cots and a place to store their personal belongings. At the end of the week, families move to another host congregation. This continues (on average between 1 - 2 months) until the family is established with a more permanent, safe housing situation.
The book of Isaiah asks that we feed the hungry and shelter the homeless. The book of Hebrews suggests that by welcoming strangers we may entertain angels. As people of faith, what is our responsibility as families face homelessness right here in Juneau?
Family Promise of Juneau is a 501(c)(3) operating under EIN 47-5613303
